Wing Foil in the sun of Fuerteventura

If you want to fly over the swell in a Wing Foil in the sun when it’s grey at home, Fuerteventura is the perfect destination. This Canary Island (nicknamed the Hawaii of the Atlantic) is the perfect combination of turquoise waters, heat and wind. The desert landscapes, the dunes as far as the eye can see, the breathtaking beaches, the small fishing villages, provide a real feeling of disorientation. Rocked by the wind and the waves, you can sail a Wing Foil in a mild climate all year round. Paradise, without having to cross the Atlantic.

At first sight, this destination seems to welcome mass tourism, but the north of the island has managed to protect itself from it. You will discover traditional and authentic villages, where it is good to stroll after your session. There are unspoilt beaches, far from seaside resorts, but also lunar and volcanic landscapes. The nature is so diverse, you are assured of a total sense of escape.

Fuerteventura: favourable conditions for Wing Foil

The island of Fuerteventura is a great place to live because of its mild climate, with plenty of sunshine and trade windsfrom the north-east of the Canaries. All the conditions are therefore met for practising board sports. The wind blows all year round and the temperatures are pleasant in summer and winter. These range from 22°C to 31°C in the air and from 18°C to 23°C in the water. One of our favourite playgrounds for Wing Foil, Surf Foilor Kitesurf!

Moreover, it is anaccessible destination, both in terms of time and cost. You can find direct flights from the mainland at affordable prices depending on the season. Once there, the cost of living is relatively cheap.

To allow you to discover and enjoy the best Wing Foil spots on this island, here are our favorites:

Corralejo is a town located on the coast, northeast of Fuerteventura. It is the largest town on the island, which has nevertheless managed to retain its authenticity and charm as a fishing village. It is a friendly atmosphere that cradles the city, dotted with bars and restaurants. The nightlife is also festive.

Near the old town, you will find a port which will be ideal forbeginners in WingFoiling and other nautical activities.

The charm of Corralejo also lies in its natural landscapes. Not far from the panoramic views of Montaña Roja and the sand dunes, you will find paradisiacal beaches and small coves on 9km of coast. The white sand and turquoise water as far as the eye can see make this place even more magical. Practitioners more experienced in Wing-Foilwill find their happiness in the middle of the waves.

The North-Shore, which includes El Cotillo and its surroundings, on the northwestern tip of the island, will have some nice surprises in store for you, even in light conditions.

The wind coming from the North / North-East (the trade winds) will offerpowerful waves, which are very famous for experienced surfers, kitesurfers and Wing Foilers, but remain practicable forintermediate levels. You can enjoy it mostly in winter. Although the whole year is a good time to practice regularly and indulge your heart’s content during your sessions, summer will offer you more accessible conditions on this spot. At this time, the water will be flatter, and the waves smaller, ideal for beginners. Vous pourrez également en profiter pour vous balader en Stand-Up Paddle. As far as the Wing-Foil is concerned, the advantage is that you can shift from 8 knots of wind!

Still in the North of Fuerteventura, in the South of Corralejo, you will find the spot of Flagbeach. The name of this beach speaks for itself! It is a mythical place for kitesurfing, due to its favourable conditions. Surfing and Wingfoil are also very popular. The advantage of this spot is that it is accessible to all levels, even beginners can practice. The wind provided will allow you to practice in freeride or in the waves. Be careful when launching, especially when there are waves: there are rocks on the shore.

On the south-east coast of Fuerteventura, between Costa Calma and Morra Jable, the beach of Sotavento is a mythical spot for surfing sports. Its stretch of sand and turquoise water makes it one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Very famous for Kitesurfing, you can also sail in Wing-Foil.

Very famous for Kitesurfing, you can also sail in Wing-Foil. The winds are constant, directed towards the North-East. In spring and summer, you can surf in stronger winds, sometimes exceeding 50 knots! It is a spot which remains accessible to all levels, with a relatively easy launch.
