What equipment to use when sailing in Andalusia.
The equipment required for sailing in Tarifa can be very varied. In Levante (east wind), the wind can be very strong, so smaller wing sizes are preferable. On the other hand, in Poniente (north-westerly wind), the wind will be less strong, so a larger wing will be required.
If you’re just starting out on the wing, we recommend the Wing foil 5’4 or 5’7; this pack is ideal for the summer months, when the wind is lighter. If you’re more adept at winging, we’d recommend the Superfly, which is perfectly suited to strong winds and heavy seas.
The size of the front fin on foil will depend on your skill level. But to sum up, if you’re a beginner, go for a Control 1250 if the wind is very strong, or otherwise for the classic 1500 or 1750 range. If you’re an expert, Tarifa will enable you to sail with very small front wings, such as 550 cm², 670 cm² or 810 cm².
In short, Andalusia is an ideal destination for wingfoil enthusiasts thanks to its regular wind conditions, abundant sunshine and the presence of numerous spots and facilities.
The choice is yours. All year round, you’ll be able to sail and find a suitable spot for wing foil, kite or surf. Tarifa is considered Europe’s mecca for board sports.
