Our comparison of inflatable paddles on the market
For beginners, we recommend stable paddles with a little less length to increase manoeuvrability. Stability is a function of board width. A wider board will be more stable. A paddle for beginners will be very much geared to cruising.
What will make the difference between the brands is the construction:
- A paddle that is stronger and therefore more durable over time will be a little heavier because it will have a few more layers of PVC.
- A very light paddle will be less strong. There’s a difference of 1kg.
The more reinforced the paddle, the stiffer and more stable it will be. So it’s important to look at the number of layers, which can help you differentiate between constructions.
1. Top 5 cheap paddles
A cheap paddle is an easy-to-use paddle at a very reasonable price. It’s the perfect way to discover paddling and get started.
Generally speaking, a cheap paddle is a first-price paddle. To make it more economical, we reduce the number of PVC layers, and simplify the design and construction to get a very attractive price. Depending on the brand, strength and stability can vary greatly.
We’ve put together a ranking to help you make your choice. Our main criteria were: construction, quality of materials, board width for maximum stability and price.

2. Top 5 paddles for beginners
For beginners, we recommend stable paddles with a little less length to increase manoeuvrability. Stability is a function of board width. A wider board will be more stable. A beginner’s paddle is best suited to family outings. What makes the difference between the different brands is the construction and quality of the pvc and glue used, as well as the overall shape of the inflatable paddle, which determines how it glides. A paddle that is stronger and therefore more durable over time will be a little heavier, as it will have a few more layers of PVC. A very light paddle will be less solid, with a difference of 1kg between the two options… The more reinforced the paddle, the stiffer and more stable it will be. So it’s important to look at the number of layers, which can help you differentiate between constructions. Finally, some shapes will allow you to glide more easily, while others will be more stable. Choose according to your needs and abilities.

3. Top 4 racing paddles
Aracing paddleis necessarily long and narrow. The longer and narrower it is, the better it performs, but the downside is that it is less stable. So you need to master the paddle to get the most out of this type of stand-up paddle.
A racing paddle ranges from 12’6 to 14 feet. The width will be less than 28′ wide. Again, one of the keys to performance is rigidity, which is why many competitors opt for rigid boards. But for simplicity’s sake, more and more competitors are using inflatable paddles.
We deliberately didn’t give any marks, because racing is very difficult to assess. There are so many factors involved that it’s difficult to be objective. 80% of the performance is the competitor and the rower on the board. So cardio, physical strength and explosiveness are such important criteria that they can distort a test.

4. Top 4 surf paddles
To surf an inflatable paddle, you need to choose the right one.
The shape is different, as is the thickness:
- The outline of the board should be fairly round, with a narrowing at the front and back of the board to facilitate turns and prevent the nose from ploughing into the wave.
- A thickness of 5′ (12 cm) is recommended, so that you can press down on the rails and turn the board more easily.
- Similarly, the position and angle of the fins will influence the paddle’s manoeuvrability.
- Finally, stiffness is a fundamental criterion if you hope to make real turns. If the board is made too light, it will bounce on the water with a significant loss of energy.
It’s essential to take the time to compare constructions. It’s better to invest in a good paddle for the waves.
At SROKA, we offer two models that could potentially meet paddle surf.
- The Wave 9’5 is mainly aimed at paddle surf, but you can still take it for a spin.
- And the second is the Malibu 10, which will be 70% touring and 30% wave-oriented.
Our main criteria for evaluating these 4 paddles were: board shape (which determines the board’s maneuverability), board width, thickness and length, as well as the paddles’ construction and the materials used.

5. Top 5 touring paddles
A paddle tour is an adventure for family and friends. Technically, all paddles can do this, but :
- if you want to optimize your glide and your ride, we recommend boards with pointed noses for better gliding.
- If you’re looking for stability, opt for a paddle with a pointed nose and a fairly wide stern to maximize your stability.
- If you’re looking to maximize glide, opt for a long, thin board with a slim tail. This will enable you to go faster. This type of board will provide excellent glide and allow you to cover more distance with less effort.
Our main criteria were sturdiness, overall shape (which determines glide and stability), quality and quantity of materials used, and price.

What’s an inflatable paddle?
Inflatable paddling is an aquatic sport that can be practised in the sea, lake or river. Using a paddle, the paddler stands on a board and moves around using his or her paddle. Inflatable paddle, stand-up paddle or SUP are the same sport.
A paddle is a board with one or more fins, a pump, a leash and a carrying bag. Sometimes paddles are sold separately (without paddle or leash) and sometimes they are sold with them. Rigid boards are still available, but inflatable boards are more common for reasons of simplicity, ease of use and sturdiness.
Who can stand up paddle?
Inflatable paddles are designed for a wide audience. From beginners to experts, there’s something for everyone. There are no age limits. This type of activity is particularly suited to people who want to relax on the water and get away from the crowds.
There are different types of inflatable paddle. The shape, length and number of fins differ to meet different needs. In the same way, the construction is very important in the responsiveness, rigidity and stability of your paddle.
So before investing in a paddle, analyze your needs and desires to choose the right model.
Depending on your activity, the choice of paddle will be decisive in really adapting to what you want to do on the water. If you want to hike, race, paddle surf or learn to paddle, you’ll need to choose a different paddle. An all-purpose paddle will be a compromise and will do everything but nothing well. So think in terms of where you are, your level, your desires and your size, and your choice of paddle will be different.
We’ve tried to show you different products that can meet all your needs. Our main criteria were: paddle price, paddle construction, paddle width, paddle shape, accessories if any.
