THE STAND UP PADDLE PADDLE
How to choose your SUP paddle
An essential piece of your stand up paddle equipment, don't forget that the paddle is the engine of the stand up paddle board.
Therefore, the choice of paddle is very important depending on your different practices. There are many models, blade and shaft shapes, materials, as well as possible sizes and fastening systems.
To paddle correctly and be effective in movement without hurting your back, the length of the paddle must be adapted to the size of the paddler.
The goal is for each paddle stroke to be effective. For this, the blade must be fully submerged to achieve the best possible efficiency.
If you only skim the water with the tip of the paddle, you won't be able to reach optimal speed and you risk losing your balance.
Conversely, a paddle that is too long will result in slow and tiring movements, especially when bringing the paddle forward.
If the paddler is stiff when paddling, there's a good chance their paddle is too long. Paddling involves using the entire upper body and not just the arms; it's natural to lean forward during the paddling motion to gain more efficiency. The paddle is, in fact, a third point of support on the water that balances your upper body and lightens the pressure of your legs on the board.
In this article, we detail how to choose your SUP paddle and adapt it to your practice according to: size adjustment and the materials used for the blade and shaft.
