A good Parawing board must above all favor flat gliding before flight. It is characterized by an elongated shape (high length/width ratio), beveled rails (bevels) to forgive touches in the water, and a pinched tail to reduce the suction cup effect. The volume must be sufficient to float comfortably when stationary, while a rigid and light construction (such as carbon sandwich) is recommended to efficiently transmit energy to the foil during takeoff.

In Wingfoil, the wing creates a powerful upward pull that allows you to take off on a short board. In Parawing, the pull of the sail is lower and lighter at start-up. The board therefore needs to generate its own speed on the water (like a surfboard or a downwind SUP). The length and tapered shape (often Mid-Lengthtype) allow you to paddle or glide very quickly to reach the foil's lift-off speed with minimum effort.

Technically yes, but it is not the optimal setup. A wing foil board is designed to handle the lateral pull of a wing held with two hands, whereas a parawing generates a different, more vertical pull. Using a dedicated parawing board ensures better performance, especially during takeoff and in flight. If you're a beginner or just want to try out the sport, a voluminous wing foil board may be suitable initially before investing in a specific board.

The recessed deck lowers the rider's feet by a few centimeters towards the waterline. This provides two major advantages in Parawing: a significant increase in lateral stability when standing still (a crucial phase when deploying the sail), and much more direct and intuitive foil control once flying due to a lowered center of gravity.

Yes, this is one of the great assets of this type of shape. Thanks to their excellent paddling glide and length, Parawing boards are excellent SUP Foilboards for surfing swells (downwind) or soft waves. They are also perfect for Wingfoil in ultra-light wind(Light Wind), as their elongated shape allows them to take off where a classic wing board would remain stuck to the water.

While inflatables offer practicality, rigid boards (especially full sandwich carbon) provide significantly superior performance. Rigid boards allow for complex shapes (double concave hulls, sharp rails) that optimize water flow. Moreover, the absence of flexibility guarantees instantaneous transmission of your input to the foil, which makes pumping more efficient and control in flight much more precise.

The inserts allow you to screw in footstraps to lock your feet in place. In parawing, many practitioners ride "strapless" (without straps) to be able to move their feet freely between the paddling phase and the flying phase. However, the presence of multiple inserts is essential for those who want to jump, ride hard in the swell, or use the board for classic wingfoiling where straps provide significant control.

The hull design is crucial for breaking the suction effect with the water. A modern hull typically combines a double concave at the front(to cushion touchdowns and channel water) and a flat section in the center to accelerate take-off. A thin, beveled tail allows the board to easily tilt backward during the pop to release the foil without slowing down the glide.

Lightweight rigid boards are susceptible to impacts on concrete or foil. It is highly recommended to use a thick protective cover (10 mm)designed for elongated shapes, ideally with a slot to carry the board with the foil mast still attached. Also remember to rinse the US rails with fresh water after each session to prevent screws from getting stuck due to salt or sand.
