Wingfoil Destination Leucate
The reputation of the "wind city" is well-established; host of the World Wind Festival for over 20 years, Leucate is an ideal destination for Wing foil: it's the place to be for wind and board sports in general. Located in the corridors where the Tramontane wind accelerates, the region is swept throughout the year by over 300 annual wind days. Accompanied by a significant number of shops for stocking up on gear or for usual repairs.
Which spots for wingfoiling in Leucate?
1. Les Coussoules (La Franqui)
The first spot on our list is Les Coussoules. A spot for the legendary World Wind Festival and many competitions, it is above all the spot where the wind is always strongest thanks to its venturi effect. The wind is channeled there by the hinterland and Cap Leucate, where the village of La Franqui is nestled. And what's more, the area is incredibly beautiful!
Thus, the wind comes from the Northwest (Tramontane) or South/Southeast depending on the thermal orientations in summer.
Sea, sand, sun
Imagine a riders' campsite... Well, there you are! Leucate is a perfect destination for a wingfoil holiday. The spot is right outside your mobile home, and facilities for cleaning/drying equipment are located at the foot of the beach. The same goes for storage. But above all, there's a fantastic atmosphere with only windsurfers and "wingers" around you. The spot works in all wind directions, as it's on the sea. (The prevailing wind will be Northwest for the Tramontane and Southeast for the sea breeze)
Le Goulet (Leucate Pond)
In this region, many spots are on ponds. Unfortunately, practice will depend on the amount of algae present during your visit, but one of the most well-known spots remains Le Goulet, famous for its club, the Wesh Center Crew, run by Julien Taboulet, a former windsurfing champion. The place is truly a little corner of paradise, with the possibility of eating on site, as well as showering and even accessing a skate ramp when the wind drops.
The idyllic wind is, of course, the Tramontane, and Le Goulet is among the spots where the wind is strongest. However, with a sea breeze (marin), the spot is wind-shadowed by Cap Leucate.
The Oyster Farm
Leucate's Oyster Farm, affectionately known as "Parca," is an iconic spot widely recognized by windsurfing enthusiasts. It is THE perfectly safe spot, offering ideal conditions for practitioners, whether beginners or experienced. The Parca is renowned for its shallow water, making it the perfect place for beginners, especially when using short masts.
Located in the beautiful Leucate region, the Parca attracts riders seeking a unique experience. Thanks to the shallow water, beginners can progress without fearing walking back to shore during falls or their first attempts.

What activities?
Even if Leucate is an ideal destination for improving your Wingfoil skills, its magnificent surroundings will allow you to practice many other activities. Whether it's wingfoiling on windy days or even paddleboarding when it's calm. Dockstarting is obviously possible, provided you find a pontoon. Otherwise, all you have to do is learn beach starting on a foil.
Furthermore, enjoy the hinterland to hike in the mountains and take advantage of the beautiful nature around us. If there's no wind, there's a waterski lift for wakeboarding and wakefoiling.
If you want to try dockstarting, take a trip to Barcarès; in addition to a community of riders who love dockstarting, you're sure to find pontoons there.
What equipment for wingfoiling in Leucate?
The Tramontane is a very strong and irregular offshore wind. Consequently, it will push you to your limits if you're not accustomed to it. To be as comfortable as possible in these conditions, two scenarios arise:
- Firstly, you are an experienced practitioner. In this case, bring as much equipment as possible (which is always what you do regardless of the spot), and especially think about small equipment, such as boards and foils. To give you an idea, in Leucate, the SROKA team would, for an 85 kg rider with good technical skills, take a Superfly 4'6 or 4'8, wingfoil wings in 3, 4, and 5m², and an Elite 14 mm foil with its carbon fuselage, a 180cm² stabilizer, and three front wings to adapt to all eventualities. Bring with you a 1350 L HA for calm days and possibly dockstart if you master the discipline, the one nicknamed the Swiss army knife, the 950 S HA, pleasant in all weathers. Finally, to finish, our small 670 S HA to go faster than your friends!
- Second scenario, you are progressing. In this situation, it is crucial to use equipment you are familiar with. The Tramontane pushes hard and is quite unstable, so you shouldn't be caught off guard. A 1250 Control front wing will provide comfort and ease regardless of the conditions. Finally, an 820 control will give you comfort in very strong winds. If you're riding in the sea, the wind will be offshore, all the more reason to stay safe. So go to sea with equipment adapted to your level and conditions. Otherwise, we recommend sailing on lakes and ponds.
