Lake Geneva is home to several spots popular with wing foil enthusiasts. Whether you're on the French or Swiss side, you'll find what you're looking for. This vast lake offers ideal conditions for practicing this water sport.

    • Northeast Wind: When the north-east wind blows, Lake Geneva transforms into a playground for wing foil enthusiasts. The northeasterly winds create magnificent waves, perfect for wing foiling. Riders can enjoy unique sensations in the heart of this alpine landscape.
    • Southwest Wind: Even when the southwest wind is less strong, it allows riders to sail. The new wingfoil boards designed for light wind conditions, such as LW or DW, are particularly well-suited to these conditions.

In summary, Lake Geneva is a true paradise for wing foil enthusiasts, with a variety of spots to explore.

Iconic Wing Foil Spots of Lake Geneva

On the French side, two spots stand out for practicing Wing Foil

    Excenevex

This fine sandy beach is ideal for wing foiling when the wind is blowing from the northeast. You can walk about 300 meters into the water. Getting started can be a little difficult for beginners, as the spot is completely onshore.

    Hermance Beach

Located 15 minutes from Geneva, on the Franco-Swiss border, this beach offers a family-friendly and tranquil atmosphere. It is well exposed to the wind, particularly from the South/Southwest.

In summer, there is a fee to access this grassy beach. The south/southwest wind can be fickle, but it's still good for sailing. The northeast wind is more gusty.

You can even cross the lake for 7 km from this beach.

On the Swiss side, we must also consider these three spots which operate from the Northeast

    The Rose Pond in Martigny

In the canton of Valais, there is a body of water located right next to the Grand-Saint-Bernard rest area. It houses a water sports center where you can rent equipment such as paddleboards , kayaks , canoes and windsurfing boards .

A footbridge divides the Gouille into two distinct parts. One is reserved for windsurfers, with the headquarters of the Martigny Windsurf Club , while the other part is dedicated to swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking.

The grassy beaches on the eastern side of the lake offer magnificent views of the Catogne, an iconic mountain in the region.

If you're looking for a place to enjoy water sports or simply relax by the water, the Gouille du Rosel is an excellent choice.

The Y-plage water sports center in Yverdon-les-Bains

a fine sandy beach which allows sailing on a spot which can combine relaxation for the family and sailing.

The sailing school of – Terre Sainte in Coppet (not far from Geneva) .

A perfect little sailing area just minutes from Geneva. Not forgetting the pontoon at the nautical base in Nyon.

The major advantage of wing foiling compared to other sports like kitesurfing, for example, is that you don't need a lot of space to go wing foiling. So you just need a small access point and you're ready to wing.

    Lake Joux

There's a very small beach near the sailing center. The spot is open year-round. Launch to the right of the sailing school. It faces southwest and northeast. So, the north wind might be a bit colder, but it will offer much better sailing conditions.

    Silvaplana

Silvaplana is the venue for all the World Cups in windsurfing, kitefoiling, and wing foiling. It's a lake nestled in the mountains with exceptional wind conditions. Thermal winds appear almost every afternoon during the warmer months. So, if you're looking for a safe place to sail in Switzerland, this is the place to be. There's a campsite right at the foot of the lake. It's the Tarifa of Switzerland. Remember to bring warm clothes and a good wetsuit.

    Saint-Blaise

The Saint-Blaise spot is the main spot on Lake Neuchâtel. It works very well with a southwest wind, and if the conditions are right, you won't be disappointed. It's a grass and pebble beach. Getting in the water is very easy, and you can even take advantage of a nice chop to surf the swell trains. For wing foiling, this spot is an excellent choice.

    Yvonand

There's a beach and a water sports center (Les Vikings) in the municipality of Yvonand. This spot is located on Lake Neuchâtel. It's on the opposite side of the lake from Neuchâtel, allowing you to choose a spot depending on the wind conditions. It's a proper sandy beach. There are plenty of campsites nearby, making it easy to enjoy a pleasant family holiday by the lake.

The Vikings offer a variety of water sports, and their base is ideally located a 15-minute walk from the Yvonand train station and a 5-minute walk from the VD8 and La Menthue campsites. Enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Neuchâtel.
