Martinique, a wing foil paradise?
Martinique, a French Caribbean island, is a true tropical gem. Nestled in the heart of the Lesser Antilles, it offers a paradisiacal setting with its fine sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush vegetation. But beyond its idyllic landscapes, Martinique is also a privileged playground for watersports enthusiasts. Among them, wing foiling stands out.
This discipline combines the glide of surfing, the power of kiting, and the lightness of foiling. Imagine yourself flying above the water, propelled by the wind, in an enchanting setting. Martinique, with its suitable spots and tropical climate, is the perfect place to learn or perfect this unique discipline.
The most beautiful Wing Foil spots in Martinique
1. Le Vauclin
Le Vauclin is an excellent spot for wing foiling in Martinique. It offers warm waters and a regular trade wind, ideal for learning and progressing. The Pointe Faula spot is particularly suitable. You'll find a flat, sandy bottom, a wide body of water accessible to all levels. UCPA offers a one-week course in Le Vauclin, with 10 wing foil sessions supervised by an instructor. This is an ideal opportunity for people who already have watersports experience. For dining, I recommend Chez Henri, located on the Route des Salines, where you can enjoy delicious French and Caribbean cuisine.
2. L'Anse Michel
Anse Michel is another popular spot for wing foiling in Martinique. The wind is generally onshore, allowing for comfortable sailing. For dining, Le Cocotier is a recommended restaurant, offering magnificent views of the beach.
3. Sainte-Anne (La Baie des Anglais):
Sainte-Anne offers several varied spots for wing foiling. Anse du Belley is suitable for strong trade winds. You can also explore Les Trois-Îlets on the west coast. Be careful of obstacles in the sea. For dining, Chez Nadiege et Serge is a popular restaurant for its local dishes and friendly atmosphere.
4. Le Cap Chevalier:
For Cap Chevalier, I haven't found a specific wing foil school, but you can explore the other spots mentioned above. For dining, try Le Beach Resto Des Salines or Le Panier à Salade in Sainte-Anne, which are close to Cap Chevalier.
Martinique's special features for Wing Foiling
Martinique benefits from the trade wind, which blows from the northeast. This trade wind is regular and gentle, offering ideal conditions for safe wing foiling.
The trade wind season runs from December to July. This is the best season to practice wing foiling in Martinique. Air and sea temperatures are pleasant, reaching around 27°C during the windy period (December to April).
The most famous spots are on the south Atlantic coast, between Le Vauclin and Anse Michel, as well as in Sainte-Anne. The wind is side-onshore, which allows for comfortable sailing. The water is generally flat to choppy. Sailing in a swimsuit in a paradisiacal lagoon is just an exceptional memory.

There's something for all levels, from beginner to expert, you'll find a sport that suits your level and needs. In some lagoons, you can stand up very far, which allows you to feel safe and rest if needed.

Explore the island's magnificent tropical gardens and enjoy the colorful markets to discover local crafts.
Beaches and lagoons
Martinique offers fine sandy beaches and turquoise lagoons at 25-28°C. Swim, sunbathe, and savor pure happiness.
Martinique is much more than a dream destination for wing foil enthusiasts. It's a true paradise where you can combine gliding, discovery, and relaxation. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, the warm waters, constant trade winds, and stunning landscapes make Martinique an unmissable place to practice this unique sport. So, prepare your wing, adjust your foil, and let yourself be carried away by the magic of gliding in the heart of the Caribbean!
Just like prolonged sun exposure, prolonged exposure to strong winds and sand risks accelerating the wear of your wing. This is why, in strong winds, the trailing edge of your wing flaps in the wind, damaging it prematurely. Moreover, when sand flies (tramontana conditions in the south of France, for example), the sand hits the wing. The sand then acts like sandpaper on your wing foil or kite surf wing.
