How much does wingfoil equipment cost?
Wingfoiling is a rapidly expanding discipline. In recent years, more and more riders have joined the sport. This sport is accessible to everyone. It is also much less restrictive and difficult than our good old windsurfing. It is performed with much more flexibility than brute force.
The expansion of wingfoiling has also led to the evolution of its equipment and its accessibility.
Do you want to know how much to budget for your wingfoil equipment? We are here to advise you on how to get equipped at the best price.
There are different ways to get your wingfoil equipment. Firstly, you can buy a complete wing foil package or buy the items separately.
The wing foil pack
Some brands, like Sroka, offer complete wing foil packs. These consist of an equipment package with everything you need for wingfoiling (apart from accessories like wetsuits, helmets, impact vests...).
What a wingfoil pack contains
At Sroka, we offer two types of packs:
- The rigid Wingfoil pack
- The inflatable Wingfoil pack
The inflatable Wingfoil pack
This pack is the most accessible of all; it includes an inflatable foil board, a wing and its backpack. A complete foil, wing and board leashes, a pump, and a backpack to carry everything. Very affordable and suitable for beginners, as it comes with a beginner or intermediate foil, or for people who travel frequently. You should expect to pay around €1500 to €2000 for an inflatable pack.
The Inflatable Wingfoil Pack
This pack is the most accessible of all, equipped with an inflatable foil board, a wing and its backpack. A complete foil, sail and board leashes, a pump, and a backpack to carry everything. Very affordable and suitable for beginners, as it comes with a beginner or intermediate foil, or for people who travel frequently. You should expect to pay around €1500 to €2000 for an inflatable pack.
The Rigid Wingfoil Pack
Often offered with fairly voluminous boards and large foils, you will benefit from easy takeoff and extremely stable flight. The pack includes the same equipment as the inflatable pack: a board, a complete aluminum foil, a wing, a pump, and leashes. At Sroka, this pack comes with a 5m2 wing and a board ranging from 5.7 to 6.3 (105L to 120L). And a complete 1750cm2 foil. The pack is scalable with all boards and foils in the range. It will be able to accompany you throughout your progression. For a rigid pack, you can expect to pay between €2000 and €2800.
It is important to note that at Sroka, our foils are interchangeable. You can therefore change your front wings and stabilizers, and even your board, as you progress, allowing you to continuously improve.
Separate Equipment Purchase
You can also purchase your equipment separately. This is primarily done by more experienced riders who know what they want, which allows for better meeting your needs and providing you with high-quality, custom-fit equipment.
It's important to know that it is not recommended to mix brands, especially when it comes to the board and the foil. Not all foils work with all boards, as each manufacturer has its own specificities.
The wing foil board
It's the part that will be in contact with the water and will allow you to take off. There's no point in taking a board that's too small. In fact, it will hinder you more than anything. So, first, you need to keep your skill level in mind and avoid overestimating yourself... At the risk of finding yourself in much more difficulty. It is essential to choose a board of the right size to progress. It's always useful to keep in mind that a more voluminous wing board will be necessary in light wind conditions. And it will allow you to return safely when the wind drops.
For a beginner, it is recommended to choose a board about 20-30 liters more than the rider's weight. A rider with better control will opt for a board equal to or 10 liters more. And an expert rider will opt for a wing board smaller than their weight.
The rigid wing foil board
Offering more ease for learning, it improves gliding on the water and tends to bounce more, thus facilitating easy take-off. The rigid board is the most used on spots, existing in different constructions, fiberglass sandwich (offering a solid and cheaper board than carbon) or carbon sandwich (more expensive, the carbon sandwich will offer a stronger and especially much lighter board) and with multiple shapes and sizes…
And therefore, all budgets. It is perfect for all riders, from beginner to expert, offering a better margin for progression. Allowing for more dynamism and control. You should expect to pay between €800 and €2000 depending on brands and constructions. At Sroka, we offer a diversity of boards adapted to all levels and riding styles, from the Skyrider to the Elite, there is something for everyone and all levels.
The inflatable wing foil board
Easy to store and transport, the inflatable board is ideal for traveling wingfoilers. Indeed, it is lighter and simpler to store. Although it is less efficient than a rigid board, and requires inflation to 15PSI... an excellent warm-up. Its performance remains valuable. It will perfectly suit occasional riders who are not looking for performance, or beginners. For an inflatable board, you should expect to pay €300 to €800. The Foil
The foil, one of the essential pieces of wingfoil equipment. It is therefore crucial to choose a suitable foil, but also a quality and evolving foil that will follow you throughout your progression. It is the equipment that has evolved the most in recent years. It is therefore preferable to opt for a recent foil to benefit from all new technologies and be able to continue changing the wings so that it keeps pace with your progress. It is composed of different parts: the mast, the fuselage, the wing, and the stabilizer.
The carbon foil
The carbon foil, which is the most performing foil if well constructed. To learn everything about carbon foil construction, we have written an article above. But it is also the most expensive. A true carbon mast, affordable and lightweight, of good quality, does not exist. If it is cheap, it risks being foamed and therefore flexible underfoot. For a carbon foil, you should expect to pay around €2200, not including the wings and stabilizers that will be added. A carbon foil is therefore mainly recommended for advanced riders who want to push themselves even further than with an aluminum foil.
The aluminum foil
The aluminum foil is the most common foil on the market; indeed, cheaper than carbon, it is perfect for most practitioners. Expect to pay around €800-1000 for a complete aluminum foil. At Sroka, we offer highly evolving aluminum foils with which you can adapt all our wings and stabilizers. If you are hesitating between a carbon or aluminum foil, read the article above.
At Sroka, we offer you the best carbon mast on the market, a technological gem that will push your limits on the spot. This ultra-rigid, high-quality, and evolving mast, thanks to the compatibility of Sroka foils, will accompany you during all your sessions, whether you practice surfing, freeride, freestyle, or racing. The Wing
The Wing is crucial for maximizing your enjoyment during your rides, and it is important to choose an adapted wing. Furthermore, for your safety, there's no need to choose the largest wing on the spot. Opt for a wing suitable for the conditions and your size. Choosing the right sail will offer you increased pleasure and comfort while riding. The SROKA V4 Wing and the SROKA V4 Elite Wing will be your allies in all weather conditions.
It is recommended to have a set of 2 wings depending on your size and the conditions where you ride. For example, an 80 kg rider riding in Brittany would rather opt for a 4m2 and a 5m2 to best optimize their riding range and not miss any session. A wingfoil wing costs between €500 and €1000 depending on the brands and wing qualities. Wings can even reach over €2000 for special race wings. At Sroka, we offer the Sroka Wing V4 starting from €720. The SROKA Elite Wing is offered at €1500.
Accessories
Accessories and equipment should be taken seriously, as they ensure both your safety and enjoyment during your ride. Equip yourself with a wetsuit adapted to the temperatures; a helmet and an impact vest are highly recommended. You should expect to pay around €50 for a helmet and €150 for a vest. The Sroka Impact Vest PRO is €149.00. Above all, never forget your board and wing leashes; they are your life insurance;).
In summary
