On the occasion of the Wing Foil Promo Tour 2021, our team visited Soustons Lake on Sunday, November 7, 2021. For this new edition, the Club de Voile de Soustons Marensin welcomed many wing foil brands to present and allow you to test our products.
Although the event was dedicated to Wing Foiling, Dock Start was a great success that day, almost stealing the show from the new FFV sport. Dock Start consists of gaining momentum by running on a pontoon, then launching onto one's foil board and moving away from the shore by pumping. The rider can then glide, make turns, or follow a boat's wake.
In this dynamic, an informal competition was organized for the fastest pumping. The goal was to complete a marked course as quickly as possible and return to the starting pontoon.
Our ambassador Gabriel Bachelet, who was there to represent us, was able to showcase his performance as a rider, as well as the capabilities of our new High Aspect 1190 Lift wing. Indeed, Gabriel took first place, completing the course in 26.08 seconds. Equipped with the S-Foil HA 1190L (with a 70cm mast) and the Fast Flyer 4'6 board, we are proud to highlight the capabilities of our products.
This record confirms all the research and development behind this HA foil, as well as its performance and quality. 👍
Find out in these articles how to learn to pump in foil, or how to start dock start correctly.
Your learning and progression capabilities will also depend on your equipment. To pump in surf foil, you will need a buoyant and maneuverable foil, and a small and light board. Here are some tips for choosing the right equipment:
The foil
When you start a dock start, your initial speed is relatively limited and requires a wing that provides good lift for easier take-off.
If you are new to Surf Foiling or pumping, you can choose between our S-Foil XL (1750 cm2) and XXL (2000 cm2) Mid Aspect models. The 1750 is very versatile, allowing for quick take-off in small, soft waves, for riders weighing 70 to 90 kg. It is our most interesting model from an evolutionary perspective. The 2000 (XXL) wing is for heavier riders who want an easy start. You will be able to take off in conditions with less lift. It will also suit beginner dock start riders.
If you are looking for very efficient lift, with more technique and versatility, the S-Foil High Aspect 1350 Lift will be a very good compromise for very efficient pumping with less effort. Its elongated aspect ratio guarantees increased speed, like a glider, to reconnect waves indefinitely.
The board
A small board with low volume will be easier to handle for dock start. We recommend a short and compact board. The lighter the board, the higher your chances of successful pumping. A Wake Foil board like the Pocket Foilboard (17 liters) is very versatile and will satisfy those who want to learn or move to the next level in Foil.
