The benefits of carbon foil

It's all about compromise. If the carbon foil can be more rigid, it will also be as heavy as an Aluminum mast. If the carbon foil is lighter, it will have lost in stiffness. The rigidity and performance of a mast are defined by the thickness and chord of the mast. The thinner the carbon mast (in thickness and chord) and the more the mast will be high-performing. However, to be rigid, you will need to increase the amount of carbon and the quality of carbon fibers to maintain low drag and maximize rigidity. This is what we did in the Elite range of the 14 mm carbon mast.

Rigidity, responsiveness and durability. Carbon is more rigid than Aluminum if you use high-quality carbon fibers named: High Modulus carbon. The lay-up plan of a mast is of fundamental importance and will determine its torsional or bending rigidity; If the lay-up plan is perfect, this will considerably improve the reactivity and control of the board at high speed. The rigidity of the carbon foil allows you to feel sensations difficult to perceive with other materials. This is what we propose to you for the Elite Carbon foil version in 14 mm.

If you are looking for more lightness, we recommend you look at the Solo foil in 16mm. It will be more than 1 kg lighter compared to an Aluminum foil. The gain in lightness will be offset by a larger mast thickness (thus increasing drag) while maintaining rigidity similar to the Elite 14 mm carbon foil. If your goal is not to break speed records, the Solo 16 mm carbon foil could be perfect for you.

Finally, carbon is more durable than aluminum, which means it will last longer and require less maintenance if you take care of it.

Why does carbon foil cost more than aluminum foil?

Carbon foil is generally more expensive than aluminum foil due to the quality and quantity of materials used, not to mention manufacturing complexity. Carbon is more difficult to work with than aluminum, which makes production more costly. In our Elite Carbon Mast version, we have 140 layers of carbon that are laid one after another in the mold.

Carbon foil performance

Improved reactivity and control. Carbon foil improves board reactivity and control thanks to its rigidity. It allows you to become one with your equipment and will enable you to be more precise with your weight distribution. Demanding riders can thus feel sensations difficult to perceive with other materials. Moreover, a decrease in the overall drag of the mast results in more foil maneuverability. You will feel gusts more intensely and thus the thrilling acceleration on the water.

SROKA offers three ranges of foils to meet the needs of all riders

1. The Classic range is designed for beginners and consists of three front wing sizes: 2000 cm², 1750 cm² and 1500 cm². These wings have a moderate aspect ratio which gives them maximum stability, accessibility and maneuverability. The size of the front wing will be determined by where you will be riding (strong wind or light wind) and your size.
2. The Control range is our all-purpose range, it will allow you to carve, progress, and enjoy SROKA's excellence with an added dose of accessibility! Regardless of your level, this range will bring you control whatever the wind or sea conditions. It comes in two wings currently 1250 cm², 950 cm² and soon 820 and 680 cm² will arrive.
3. Finally, the High Aspect range (the one with high elongation or aspect ratio) allows, in large sizes, to have the feeling of a plane gliding with a mind-blowing flight efficiency and in small sizes, speed will be the predominant factor.

The ranges come in three sub-categories:

• The Wave (W) sub-range designed for surf foil allowing better control and efficient pumping at low speed,
• The Lift (L) sub-range with a profile allowing more power and more tolerance at low speed with easier takeoff in light wind,
• And the Speed (S) sub-range with fast profiles allowing maximum acceleration, high-speed stability and unbridled glide with better acceleration sensations.

We chose to limit our stabilizer range to 4 models, thus allowing a simpler choice for you customer. To adapt to each profile, our stabilizers can be used with shims allowing you to adjust them and thus satisfy all levels and all sizes.
