Downwind foiling is a form of sailing where the rider uses the wind and swell to glide with a foil, often a SUP foil or wing foil, or with a parawing over significant distances with very little effort.

Downwind SUP foiling focuses on long-distance directional navigation by harnessing the energy of the wind and swell, while classic SUP foiling can include wave sessions without necessarily using the downwind leg.

A suitable board (often long and narrow to optimize speed), a high-performance foil, an efficient paddle and safety accessories (life jacket, leash, communication) are essential for successful downwind sessions.
