How to choose your stand up paddle paddle
The paddle is the most important accessory after the board: a well-chosen paddle makes every outing more efficient, less tiring and more enjoyable. Three criteria make the difference: the material, the size adjustment and the number of parts. Here's how to choose the ideal paddle.
The material: aluminum, carbon or hybrid?
The material determines the weight, the stiffness and the price of the paddle. The lighter a paddle is, the less you get tired and the more responsive the stroke is.
- Aluminum paddle — The most affordable, robust and perfect for beginners or for occasional use. A bit heavier and sensitive to cold, but virtually indestructible. It's also the ideal choice for a children's paddle.
- Hybrid carbon paddle (50% / 60%) — The best value for money. The carbon shaft significantly lightens the overall paddle while keeping a resistant blade (plastic or composite). It's the versatile choice recommended for most practitioners who want to progress without breaking the bank.
- 100% carbon paddle — The most lightweight and responsive (often under 1 kg). Reserved for regular and demanding practitioners (race, long distances, surf) who seek maximum power transfer with every stroke.
Paddle size: adjust your paddle according to your practice
A well-adjusted paddle should exceed your height. The general rule: your height + 15 to 25 cm approximately. The precise adjustment depends on your discipline:

Tip: arm extended upward, the T-grip should reach your wrist level. If in doubt, an adjustable paddle (vario) allows you to adjust the length to the centimeter and share the paddle between multiple users.
Fixed, adjustable or detachable: how many parts?
- Fixed paddle (1 part) — The lightest and most rigid, with no energy loss. Ideal for performance when you already know your ideal length. See the 100% carbon fixed paddle.
- Adjustable vario paddle (2 parts) — The best compromise: it adjusts in height and remains rigid. Perfect for versatile use and for the whole family. See the vario 50% carbon 2-part paddle.
- Detachable paddle (3 parts) — Breaks down into three pieces to fit in your inflatable paddleboard's carry bag. Ideal for traveling and taking everywhere. See the vario 50% carbon 3-part paddle or the 60% carbon Alpha version.
