La Point Rouge: Marseille’s iconic Wing Foil spot

Have you ever seen a wingfoil spot accessible by public transport? We have! The legendary La Pointe Rouge spot is right in the heart of Marseille, in the 8th arrondissement. You can get there by bus 19 or metro 2. Launching is usually on the right-hand side of La Pointe Rouge beach, or below the “La Riviera” restaurant.

The prevailing wind on this spot is the Mistral (NW). It’s also a very good spot in a westerly wind. When conditions are right, there are waves to ride the swell and chop to jump. This spot should be avoided in easterly winds and in northeasterly and southeasterly winds for beginners. Swell and offshore wind can take you out to sea.

This superb spot with south-westerly and south-easterly winds will take you on a journey. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned sailor, it’s a real pleasure to foil on these crystal-clear waters. And if the wind dies down, you can always try your hand at dockstarting from one of the four pontoons in the harbor, so you can have a lot of fun! But beware: this idyllic spot is very popular in summer.

L’Anse de Bonnieu: a wingfoil spot for everyone

Whether you’re an experienced rider or not, this spot offers great conditions for all riders. The northwest-facing bay offers a wealth of possibilities, with winds from northwest to south. Other orientations are not recommended, especially for beginners, as these are offshore winds. For more experienced sailors who like to foil in the waves, a magnificent swell is formed if waves are forecast and the wind blows from the South-East. Beware: in some parts of the bay, the depth can become very shallow. Be preventive and protect your foil by taking care not to scrape the bottom of the water.

Carro: the Wing Foil super spot for advanced surfers

Located less than half an hour from Marseille, the Carro spot is a small paradise that will delight lovers of foil. It lies to the west of the small Provencal village of Carro. Above all, it’s an ideal wave spot with a north-westerly wind. It’s also possible to ride in W, SW and SE winds. This great wave spot is best reserved for experienced surfers, as although it offers superb sailing conditions, the wind can change quickly and launching can be difficult. To avoid any unpleasant surprises, we advise you to wear booties when sailing.

La Ciotat: wingfoil in one of the world’s most beautiful bays

The Bay of La Ciotat, voted most beautiful bay in the world in 2019, is an incredible Wingfoil spot. It’s less than an hour’s drive from Marseille and offers splendid sessions thanks to a sandy bottom that makes the water turquoise. Launching from the beach is easy, and the winds are steady. Southwest winds are the best orientation. You can also enjoy this spot with a north, north-westerly or south-easterly wind if you like waves. The water is shallow, so you’ll need to walk a little to make sure you’ve got enough bottom. The more adventurous can go further out to take advantage of the swell and a breathtaking view of the coast. The only problem is that in summer, it can be difficult to find a parking space.

La Coudoulière: the best wave spot in the region

This spot is a real treat for wave lovers! It’s one of the best in the region, with a strong swell that offers wonderful conditions for wave riding. It’s great with a north-westerly wind, and the waves that roll along the cliff are ideal for waveriding and jumping. With a south-westerly wind, the waves are smaller, making it ideal for freestyle sessions. However, this spot is best suited to experienced riders. Launching is easy, on the Coudoulière beach, just past the harbor. Don’t forget to watch out for the seawall and rocks in heavy conditions, to avoid injury or damage to your equipment.
