Where can you wingfoil in the Jura?
Wing foil in the Jura? Although it’s not necessarily the first destination that springs to mind when you’re looking for a place to sail, the Jura is full of spots to practice just about all our sports.
The Jura is nicknamed the “land of lakes”, which explains the presence of a large number of lakes that are ideal for wing foil in all conditions and all seasons.
Wingfoil spots in the Jura

Bellecin
Bellecin is undoubtedly the Jura’s main sailing spot. Originally a sports center, it is now home to the Club de Voile de Vouglans (CVV). Nestling on the shores of Lac de Vouglans, France’s third-largest artificial reservoir stretches over 32 km. The spot offers two sailing directions: north with “la bise”, a cold, steady wind rarely exceeding 25 knots, or south where the wind can vary from 5 knots to over 40, accompanied by strong gusts and sometimes an unstable direction. When you arrive, the sailing club will give you a warm welcome, ready to put you at ease and share all the information you need.
Clairvaux
Clairvaux is the place to be for kitesurfing, especially in winter when the other spots are almost empty. It is not practicable in summer due to the bathing zone. The wind blows exclusively from the south, and no sailing is possible from the north, as the wind is stopped by the town. Be careful on the wing, as there are a few poles flush with the water to be spotted before you set off. Don’t hesitate to ask for further information on site.

Chalain
Chalain is the fallback spot when the wind isn’t right for the other spots, especially in winter. The site operates in all orientations, depending on which beach you launch from.

Coiselet
The Coiselet spot runs both north and south, making it ideal during the period when higher dams such as Vouglans are drained. The water level is often at its highest in winter. A parking lot, located on private land whose owner allows access to riders, is directly beside the road along the lake.
What activities are available in the Jura?
These days, the Jura is particularly well-suited to water sports activities, offering complete versatility! With the exception of surfing, where you’ll have to go to Switzerland to surf the Wave Garden (artificial wave). For dockstarting, you’ll find numerous pontoons in the harbours of La Mercantine and Le Meix, as well as at the diving board on Lac de Clairvaux, or even for towing foil, which can be practised in the speed zone on Lac de Vouglans.
You’ll of course be able to practice wingfoil, kitesurf and windsurf, in addition to more mainstream activities such as cruising and dinghy sailing.
What equipment do you need for foil in the Jura?
The area is rarely affected by periods of strong wind. So, you’ll need to bring your wing foil equipment adapted to light breezes, especially in summer. However, be aware that you’re never safe from a gale. In this case, be sure to pack your small boards and foils, as the southerly wind can be violent!
For experienced riders, the small foils can help you gain flying speed and thus pass through soft spots more easily.
Where to rent and take lessons?
If you’d like to take lessons, you can turn to the Club de Voile de Vouglans, a friendly club with a family atmosphere. They’ll provide you with all the equipment you need for your learning sessions. For rental, the CVV can also offer equipment at competitive rates.
Advice from the SROKA team
The region attracts many bathers in summer, so it’s essential to remain vigilant against irresponsible behavior. Many people attempt to swim across the lakes without any means of identification. So be careful, and keep a watchful eye ahead.
Otherwise, all we can do is wish you an excellent stay!
