What materials are needed to repair an inflatable paddleboard?

The good thing is that you won't need a lot of materials to repair your inflatable SUP. However, it's important to note that if the tear or puncture is too large, you'll need to call a professional to repair your inflatable paddleboard.

Here is the list of materials you will need:

    • An inflatable paddleboard repair kit: At Sroka, you receive a repair kit directly with your paddleboard when you purchase it. If you haven't received a repair kit, you can find them in sports stores and online shops specializing in watersports.
    • Hot water
    • A little mild soap: Do not use abrasive products like alcohol or ethanol, as this could weaken the paddleboard's skin.
    • A clean, dry cloth: Make sure your cloth is not dirty to avoid damaging your paddleboard.
    • A hairdryer: This is not mandatory, but it will help heat the patch so it sticks better.

How to repair your inflatable paddleboard: the steps

    • Step 1: Start by cleaning the damaged area with mild soap and some warm water. Then use a clean, dry cloth to dry the area and remove any soap residue. Make sure the damaged area is completely dry and free of any dust before moving on to the next step.
    • Step 2: Remove the protective film from the repair patch. There are two scenarios: if the film is self-adhesive, you simply need to remove the protective film. If the repair patch is not self-adhesive, you will need to apply glue to the back of the patch before applying it.
    • Step 3: Apply the patch to the damaged area. Make sure the patch is well-centered and completely covers the puncture or tear.
    • Step 4: Remove any air bubbles that may have formed under the patch. To do this, you can use a smooth, flat object such as a spatula or a credit card to smooth the patch and remove all air bubbles.
    • Step 5: Use a hairdryer to gently heat the patch. This will help it adhere properly. Make sure not to overheat it, or you risk damaging the paddleboard. Then allow the patch to cool and harden for about 10 to 15 minutes. Once dry, your inflatable paddleboard should be repaired and ready to be used again.

How to change the valve of your inflatable paddleboard?

Changing the valve of your inflatable paddleboard only takes a few minutes. You will only need the key provided in the repair kit and the new valve. Start by fully deflating your paddleboard and then place your knees on either side of the valve to hold your paddleboard to the ground. Open the valve and use your key to unscrew it. Once the valve is completely unscrewed, it will come off on its own. Then take the new valve and screw it in place of the old one using the key. The valve must be correctly tightened, but there's no need to overtighten it, otherwise you risk breaking the valve and the key. That's it, your paddleboard is ready to go again!

Our tips for proper maintenance of your inflatable paddleboard

Here are some tips for properly maintaining your inflatable paddleboard to maximize its lifespan:

    1. We advise you to store your inflatable paddleboard away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent it from aging prematurely, especially in summer and during heatwaves. During high heat, it is very important not to leave your inflatable paddleboard in your car, as it may be damaged by the heat.
    2. Even if it seems logical, do not drag your paddleboard on the beach to put it in the water. To avoid damaging it, carry it to the water without letting it rub on the ground.
    3. Rinse your inflatable paddleboard with fresh water as regularly as possible. This step is even more important if you are not going to use it in the next few days. You can also clean it with a damp, clean cloth.
    4. Finally, regularly check the seams and attachment points to prevent any tears or punctures. If you spot a damaged area, do not return to the water with your paddleboard and repair it immediately following the steps explained above.
