We will guide you through the exciting world of wing foiling to present you with the best packs available on the market for 2024-2025.

The list is so long that we won't be able to cover them all. However, we will equip you with the knowledge to better understand the world of wing foiling and provide you with the right information to help you choose the best wing pack according to your needs, size, and skill level.

Wing foiling, a blend of windsurfing, kitesurfing, and surfing, is gaining popularity thanks to its simplicity and the gliding sensation it offers. Safer than kitesurfing and less cumbersome than windsurfing, wingfoiling is a mix of several sports that will provide you with many thrills and open up the world of foiling.

In this article, we will explore the criteria to consider when choosing the ideal wing foil pack for you, based on your size, your spot, as well as the most performant options if you are looking for performance. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, let's discover together the packs that will allow you to fully enjoy this discipline.

Introduction to the "wingfoil pack" concept

A Wing foil pack is a concept that is not entirely identical across brands, particularly regarding the composition of the pack. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the small details. Generally, a Wing foil pack consists of a wing foil board, a wing, and a foil. It can be made with an inflatable or rigid board, an aluminum or carbon foil. However, there are many differences in terms of accessories.

Let's start by describing the main components

    The board

It can be rigid or inflatable. Generally, a rigid board will provide more rigidity and stability, but it will be more cumbersome and fragile. For beginners, a wider and slightly larger board will provide stability and thus make learning easier.

The inflatable wing board has many advantages and a few disadvantages. It is more impact-resistant and easier to transport. Imagine going cycling with an inflatable wing foil pack on your back. Some even go sailing on a scooter to avoid traffic jams. On a boat or in the car trunk, the inflatable pack will be forgotten. However, this board will be slightly less stable and, due to the material, it will stick to the water a little more. So, if you don't have much space or travel a lot, inflatable can be a very good alternative.

    Wing

As for the wing, they are all inflatable, making them practical to store and transport. Sizes vary from 8 m² for some brands to 2 m² for the smallest. Generally, for beginners, we recommend a 5 m² wing for someone around 80 kg, 4.5 m² for someone under 70 kg, and 6 m² for someone over 90 kg. They exist with rigid or soft handles, windows to see through, with different wingspans, different power levels, and different materials.

    The Foil

Ah, the foil! What was true for the board and the wing is just as true for the foil. From the outside, a foil is a foil, but yet, there are big differences between foils. A foil consists of a plate (connection to the board), a mast, a fuselage, a front wing, and a stabilizer. It can be made from different materials: wood, aluminum, and carbon.

When you have a carbon foil at the same price as an aluminum foil, ask yourself: how is this possible? Just because the foil is all carbon doesn't mean it performs better for the same price. To be at the same price, the carbon foil is less rigid, less solid, and will have less responsiveness and reactivity than a well-built aluminum foil. So, "cheap carbon" does not necessarily mean good quality.

In summary, one might think that all packs are equal because they are made up of the same elements. However, even when talking about the same elements, namely the board, the foil, and the wing, one can realize that there are many differences that make a pack more accessible, more performant, or more evolutive.

There are other elements that are part of some packs but not all. Accessories such as the transport bag, cover, leash, and pump vary. Some packs offer complete kits, while others focus on the essentials. You will therefore need to invest more to have a complete pack.

    Why buy a wingfoil pack?

    • Buying a pack from the same brand will ensure guaranteed compatibility on all components. Sometimes, you might see boards from one brand with foils from another. However, this is not always fully compatible. When in doubt, we recommend choosing a pack from the same brand.
    • Ease and compatibility: Buying a pack from the same brand guarantees compatibility between components. This avoids adjustment and adaptation problems. Packs are carefully designed to work together. Buying a pack from the same brand ensures perfect compatibility between the board, wing, and foil. You avoid the adjustment and compatibility problems that can arise with separately purchased components. For example, some board brands have very recessed boxes, while others have them more forward, even for the same size. This leads to a different mast position on the fuselage, which can make the foil too nose-heavy or too unstable.
    • Savings: Wing foil packs are often more financially advantageous than buying components separately. You can sometimes save between 10 and 25%.
    • Ready to ride: You receive a complete set, ready to use upon receipt. No need to search for each item individually and waste time. I would like to point out that some packs are minimalistic (without accessories), and you will need to complete your equipment by purchasing a leash, a pump, etc.
    • Manufacturer's advice: Packs are often recommended by manufacturers for an optimal experience. Indeed, development choices vary between brands. Some prioritize very fast takeoff in light wind, while others opt for moderate takeoff but with more speed. In addition, some boards included in packs are narrower and less stable than others.

In summary, a wingfoil pack is an excellent choice for beginners, as it simplifies purchasing, ensures compatibility, and allows you to focus on learning this exciting discipline. Simplify your experience, save money, and focus on the essentials: gliding and pleasure.

    For whom, what, how?

    1) Skill Level

The equipment must match your skill level. Beginners need more stable and easy-to-use equipment, while experts can opt for more performant models with narrower, more efficient, and less stable boards. This is the difference between stability and performance.

If you are a beginner, prioritize stability. A wide board and a progressive foil will help you progress with confidence. Do not choose equipment that is too small for your level and size. And pay attention to one thing: volume is equal to length multiplied by width and thickness. So just because your board is 90 L doesn't mean it's stable. Stability comes from the width of the board. There's no miracle cure.

    Regarding the type of practice:

    • Wingfoiling can be practiced in freeride, in waves, or in downwind. Each discipline has its specificities. So depending on your desires, the choice of equipment will be different.
    • However, if you are a beginner, do not overestimate yourself and stick to beginner equipment. If you choose equipment that is too performant and too technical for your level, your progression speed and learning will be much longer, or you might even become disgusted with the activity.

    2) For starting out in Wing foil

For beginners, we recommend foils around 1750 cm², a board around 6 feet with a volume between 100 and 130 L, and a 5 m² wing. Solbach should be adapted to your size. If you weigh 50 kg, we advise you to choose a smaller board: a board around 5'5 × 26 inches wide. Conversely, if you have a larger build, we recommend taking a slightly larger and wider board with a slightly larger foil around 2000 cm² and a 6 m² wing.

    3) For Downwind Wing Foiling

If you want to go downwind, opt for high-aspect foils like SROKA's UHA range and long, narrow boards like our Down Wind board range, but this will be the subject of another article and comparisons to present different options.

For wave lovers, opt for small, highly maneuverable foils and small boards that will be more playful and agile in the waves.

    4) For Wing Foiling in Waves or Jumping

If you want to jump, opt for more compact foils like SROKA's Control range and short boards with low volume like the Superfly range to facilitate takeoffs and jumps.

For wave lovers, opt for small, highly maneuverable foils and small boards that will be more playful and agile in the waves.

Pack wingsurf fast flyer fabriqué en Bretagne pour la performance, le freestyle et le surf

    5) Adapt to your sailing location

Spots vary in terms of wind, current, and wave size. If you are sailing on an inland body of water, you will need less stability on the board. However, if you are in choppy water, a more stable board will be necessary.

Therefore, the conditions in which you will be sailing will influence the choice of equipment you make. If you want more information, contact us; we will be happy to answer you.

    6) Budget

The price of equipment can vary considerably. Find a balance between quality and budget. There are no miracles. An excessively low price is not a guarantee of quality. You therefore need to carefully compare the competition to find the best choice for you and your level. Most of the time, this cheap equipment will not be evolutive over time, and you will not be able to change, for example, the front wing to continue progressing with your pack. It is therefore sometimes necessary to invest a little more to maintain great potential for evolution over time depending on your level.

    7) Scalability

Opt for scalable equipment that will accompany you in your progression. Some brands do not have compatibility between carbon and aluminum foils, for example, or the choice of front wings is very limited. Thus, this will not allow you to evolve correctly according to your desires. When starting a new sport, it is difficult to project yourself in time to know which discipline you want to pursue.

Inquire directly with the brand or a specialized retailer.

Which brand to choose for a quality rigid wing foil pack?

In conclusion of rigid wing foil packs

We have detailed three rigid wing foil packs. As you can see, there are many design differences between these packs. Some brands are less upgradeable than others.

    • Let’s take the example of the SROKA brand. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you can make your foil evolve according to your desires and your progress. Everything has been designed to simplify the user experience. The SROKA pack is complete, with particular attention paid to every detail. For example, the use of M8 screws allows for the use of a single tool to facilitate practice. The board's construction has been redesigned to guarantee durability, strength, and rigidity. The boxes pass through PVC blocks from deck to hull, thus reinforcing rigidity. The rails are carbon-reinforced, and the hull and deck are made of PVC fiberglass sandwich with carbon reinforcement, offering a reactive and rigid board. Regarding the foil, all finlets are compatible, whether you use an aluminum or carbon foil. So you can keep and upgrade your equipment.
    • However, these advantages do not apply to AFS packs. AFS packs have differences, such as varied screw sizes, incompatibility between certain foils of the brand, and a less elaborate construction for the boards and wing wings (absence of rigid handles and windows). As a beginner, it is essential to have good visibility around you, and windows provide a real advantage in terms of safety.
    • Finally, at F-one, we did not appreciate the construction of the front foil wings. This construction is heavy and not very elegant. Furthermore, compatibility between different finlets is not offered. If you wish to use smaller wings from the brand, you will have to buy a new fuselage.

Here is the final ranking of the rigid packs: the SROKA pack is in first place, followed by the AFS pack in second place, and the Fone pack comes in third place.

Which brand to choose for a quality inflatable wing foil pack?

An inflatable wing foil pack is very good for beginners and will allow you to progress, especially if you have space constraints or plan to travel frequently. Here are the criteria to consider when choosing the pack that suits you:

    1.  Board construction: Do you opt for a single skin (less rigid, but with the possibility of inverting the rocker in the water)? How is the mounting plate on the hull (short or long)? Is there a strap insert or rail reinforcement?
    2. Foil construction: Is the foil made of aluminum? The mast thickness influences rigidity. What is the screw size? How is the front wing fitted? Can the foil be upgraded over time without changing everything?
    3. Wings: Do the wings have windows to optimize vision and safety? Do you prefer rigid handles (for more responsiveness) or soft ones?
    4. Element compatibility: Are the different elements compatible with each other? Element adjustment: Do you use M8 or M6 screws? How is the front wing fitted? Are the elements interchangeable over time for progression?
    5. Pack brand: Is it a pack from a single brand?
    6. Price:Price is a criterion, but be careful: a very cheap product can lead to compromises in construction to reduce costs. A single-layer board will be cheaper to produce, but its overall rigidity will be lower, which can slow down your progress.
All our Inflatable Wing Foil Packs

By considering all these criteria, we have rated the 4 inflatable wing foil packs:

      1. SROKA V1 Wing Foil Pack :Best value for money. Product can be upgraded. Limited choice (5m wing and 1750 foil).
      2. SROKA V2 Inflatable Wing Foil Pack: Comprehensive choice (all front wing and foil sizes). Perfect adaptation to your body type or navigation spot.
      3. F-one Pack: Good quality despite a slightly large board size and specific foil construction. A homogeneous and coherent pack for beginners.
      4. Multi-brand Pack: Lack of long-term evolution (you will need to buy a complete foil again). Good wing quality, but beware of compromises.

In conclusion, the SROKA V1 pack offers the best value for money, while the multi-brand pack has limitations in terms of evolution.

Choosing the right wing pack depends on your program and specific needs. Here are some tips to guide you:

If you don't have a problem gliding, we recommend a hard pack: It will give you more rigidity, stability, and responsiveness. This will facilitate your progress and you will be able to evolve more easily over time.

    Criteria to Consider:

      • Your build: The choice of board and the size of the foil and wing will depend on your weight. The heavier you are, the more you will need to maximize volume and vice versa.
      • A single-brand pack will always be better for evolving quickly in the sport. If you mix products, there may be product incompatibilities.
      • Desired Product Quality: Determine whether you prefer a budget price, good value for money, or a high-end model. Be wary of budget prices; the price is attractive, but there will inevitably be a compromise made to lower the price of the pack. Reduced rigidity, solidity, or compatibility… the options for reducing costs are endless. But this will always be to the detriment of your progression margin and the possibility of evolving. So ask yourself the following question: Are you ready to buy a second pack 1 year after buying the first pack to evolve?
      • A rigid or inflatable pack? This will be determined primarily by space saving and your ability to travel with your pack. A rigid pack will be less easy to transport but more responsive. An inflatable pack will be perfect for those looking for minimal bulk or the ability to travel easily.

Beware of the Choice: If you choose an unsuitable wing foil pack, you risk having difficulty standing up or progressing quickly. On the other hand, a judicious choice will allow you to fully enjoy your experience on the water.
