How to recognize a good quality stand-up paddleboard?
In this article, we will explore the essential criteria to consider when selecting a quality paddleboard. Whether you are an experienced stand-up paddleboarding enthusiast or a curious beginner, it is crucial to choose an inflatable stand-up paddleboard that meets your needs and offers optimal performance on the water. Let's take a closer look at the different important points to consider. Criteria for selecting a quality paddleboard There are many essential criteria for choosing a good inflatable paddleboard. First, take a general overview and check that the paddleboard seems to be of good overall quality, with no manufacturing defects or even deformations. Next, we will discuss together the various important points to observe. Manufacturing materials Inflatable paddleboards are made of PVC, a petroleum derivative with different qualities. The first, important in our case, is that PVC is 100% airtight, which allows for an inflatable structure. However, PVC can, in certain situations, prove to be rather fragile, which is why the thickness of the different layers is extremely important because, in addition to rigidity, they will provide the strength of an SUP. For example, many SUPs on the market are constructed with 0.4 or 0.5 mm layers, whereas, with a view to the durability of our products, we have decided to construct our paddleboards with 0.7 mm PVC. Paddleboard construction The thickness of the layers is extremely important, as we have discussed, but the construction and distribution of thicknesses and welds are also important in the quest for a good quality paddleboard. For example, we use three layers of 0.7 mm on the rails, which is the most sensitive part of the paddleboard, where you will strike with your paddle and also where you will rest the SUP. The three layers on the sides also increase the rigidity of the paddleboard and thus enhance its efficiency. Maneuverability and comfort A stand-up paddleboard is a gliding element; it should have as little drag as possible to make your rides successful without being excessively tiring. To achieve this, the paddleboard must be rigid, lightweight, and well-constructed. The length-to-width ratio will largely determine your paddleboard's gliding capability. A longer and narrower SUP will glide more but will be less maneuverable, while a wider and shorter paddleboard will be more maneuverable but glide less. Accessories and additional features Finally, to refine your paddleboard choice and assess the quality of what you are looking at, pay attention to the small details that make a high-end product, such as: the quality of the accessories present on the paddleboard (bungee cords, "D" rings, handles, storage...) The quality and presence of external elements such as the pump, repair kit, leash, and transport bag. In short, you are now equipped to hunt for good deals while avoiding pitfalls. Keep in mind that paddleboards are delicate items that should be handled with the utmost care. All that's left is for you to enjoy your Stand-up Paddleboarding season.
