Which harness to choose for parawing?
Not all harnesses are equal in parawing. The discipline imposes two constraints that kitesurfing and wing foil don't face: you hook in to navigate and work upwind, but you unhook for maneuvers and to fold the wing. And once the wing is folded, you need to be able to store it on yourself. These two points should guide your choice.
Belt or pants?
In parawing, a belt is the most suitable format. Since you constantly alternate between hooked and unhooked phases, you need quick hookup and total freedom in the lower body, especially for pumping at takeoff and repositioning on the board. Pants stay in place better and don't ride up, but they limit mobility and don't suit this pace well.
The repacking pocket, the criterion that changes everything
This is the most parawing-specific point, and one that most harnesses overlook. Once the wing is folded, you need to be able to store it on yourself to glide downwind hands-free. Without a dedicated pocket, you end up managing the folded wing under your arm or stuffed in your wetsuit, which is uncomfortable and unreliable in swell.

Adjustment is done on shore, before going in the water. This detail changes everything: if you leave poorly adjusted, you'll have to stop mid-session to fix it, which is much harder in the water than on the beach.
Height first: the pull must pass through the hips, never the shoulders or ribs. Position the belt on the top of your pelvis.
Then tightness, and this is where you have to choose, because there's no perfect setting but a compromise to make:
- Tight harness : the bar is closer to you and you benefit from better lower back support.
- Slightly looser harness : it rides up a bit more, but it rotates more easily around you, making it much simpler to pass the parawing into the kangaroo pocket.
You decide where to set the cursor based on your program: rather tight if you're targeting comfort on long runs and upwind work, rather loose if you're doing frequent downwind repackings.
The most common mistakes
Hooking in too early

Trying to do everything on the harness
The harness is a tool, not a substitute for technique. Transition, takeoff, and repacking phases always require active piloting.
Forgetting to unhook during maneuvers.
If you're still hooked in before starting a jibe or tack, the transition will be harder.
