Start on a low dock, with water depth greater than your mast length and no obstacles in front of you.

At takeoff, place the foot that comes naturally to you first: some start with the back foot, others with the front foot.

Push hard at takeoff to give yourself time to foil up and position yourself. Pump hard on the first 4 or 5 strokes, then more gently to maintain flight. Look ahead to keep your balance.
