To start, you need to know that with each foil we offer you, we recommend a Stabilizer adapted according to your size and level. For example, with the 1350 Lift, a 95 kg rider will more easily use the Stabilizer in 300 cm2 while the 60 kg rider will use the 180 cm2 Stabilizer. If you follow our recommendations, no need for shims.

If the 95 kg rider wants to go faster and increase their maneuverability by using a Stabilizer of 180, it is possible. However, since the Stabilizer was not designed for this type of rider, it will lose in longitudinal stability. You will then need to use a shim (positive angle (rear of the shim thicker than the front)) to recover perfect longitudinal stability.

To understand the principle of a shim, you must first understand how the Stabilizer works. To stabilize, you need to more or less brake the Foil. The two main parameters for braking a Foil are increasing the surface of the Stabilizer as well as increasing the angle of the Back wing.

Depending on your speed, your technical level / weight and your Foil, your balance on the Foil is not the same. Therefore, you need to adjust the angle of the Stabilizer to recover perfect balance.
The few shims available on the market are made of injected plastic, aluminum or 3D printed.

We developed shims in G10 to have the maximum precision with the maximum finesse. G10 is a very dense material that resists crushing strongly (10 layers of fiberglass put under pressure to make a single thickness. It is insulating, it can be machined very finely, and does not compress). It is a nice piece that brings real added value in the precision of adjustments while maintaining the same rigidity.

The G10 shim is positioned between the Stabilizer and the Fuselage. It is simple and easy to use.

• The 300 cm2 is the standard Stabilizer and it already has a (positive) angle to make the Foil plug and play and usable without any questions. It is therefore not necessary to use positive shims with this stab. However, you can improve the overall speed of a Foil using this Stabilizer by using negative shims. That is, shims with the front thicker than the rear. This reduces drag, which increases the Foil speed.

• With the stab in 240, you can use some negative shim to reduce the angle, which can be useful with the 950 Speed if you are light or on the future 670 cm2 and on certain models like the 1350 Lift. For heavier riders, you can gain Lift by using positive shims.

• Finally with the stab at 180, we will only use positive shims to increase its lift. (its angle being already neutral)

Solving a problem:

The objective in navigation is to have the same pressure on both legs.If you have too much pressure on your front foot, that is to say the foil only rises, then you must reduce the angle of the stabilizer by using a negative shim (thicker edge in front than behind).

If you find your foil too unstable in the longitudinal axis, or if the foil tends to dive forward, you can add angle to your stabilizer by using a positive shim (thicker edge at the rear than at the front) before trying to modify the mast position on the rails.

Customize your experience:

If your goal is to go faster, you must reduce drag by reducing the angle of the stabilizer. The 240 and 180 stabilizers already have a very reduced angle. If you have the 300 stabilizer, you can reduce its angle (with a negative shim) to gain a little speed without having to change stabilizers.

The influence of the Fuselage on stability:

The longer the Fuselage, the more stable the foil is longitudinally, so you can afford to reduce the angle or size of the stabilizer to gain speed.

Conversely, the shorter the Fuselage, the less stable the foil is. You can therefore add angle to gain stability.

How to test on the water?

Once you have chosen the type of shim you want, test them directly with +1°, and then adjust as you see fit in increments of 0.25 degrees.
