    In short. Choosing the size of a Parawing doesn't come down to its surface area alone in square meters. Real power depends on precise aerodynamic parameters: aspect ratio, profile thickness (camber), construction type (single or double skin) and drag generated by the bridle. At equal surface area, a compact or double-skin wing won't cover the same wind range as a high aspect ratio or single-skin wing. On the FYNIX, four full sizes (3, 4, 5 and 6 m) are enough to cover all conditions.     What does the power of a Parawing depend on? (Beyond surface area)

    Before choosing a surface area, you need to understand that square meters aren't everything. Surface area is just one parameter among many. The real power generated by a wing depends directly on the architectural choices made by the designer:

    • Profile thickness (camber): Put simply, the power generated is proportional to profile thickness. The thicker a wing's camber, the more power and torque it generates at low speed.
    • Aspect ratio: A high aspect ratio wing (thin and slender) will glide better, generate higher top speed and take off sooner in light wind. In return, it will be less packable (more complex and bulky to fold on water or beach). Conversely, a more compact wing offers increased maneuverability and is much easier to fold.
    • Bridle (The stability/drag compromise): The bridle is essential for profile maintenance. The more bridle lines, the better the wing holds in strong wind. However, each bridle line adds aerodynamic drag, which slows the wing. The entire art of design is finding the perfect compromise: excellent structure integrity with minimum lines to reduce drag.
    • Your equipment (Foil and Board): A high-lift foil (big shape) and a board with volume make you take off sooner, allowing a smaller wing. A small fast foil will need more power to express itself. The subject is covered in detail in our guide which foil to choose for Parawing.

    Single skin vs Double skin: the truth about drag and power

    This is the fundamental point that explains why two 4 m² wings from different brands don't function at all in the same wind:

    Double Skin (Priority to glide): Contrary to popular belief, a double-skin wing does not generate less intrinsic power, but it generates much less drag. It offers maximum glide and acceleration, approaching kitefoil sensations. However, its profile requires a minimum air flow speed to inflate and establish, which shifts its usage range upward (it requires more wind to start).

    Single Skin (Priority to torque and lightness): A single-skin wing generates more drag, which gives it tremendous power and torque at low speed (bottom of range). This is ideal for pulling out of the water easily. However, this extra drag means it saturates faster at top speed and will end up pulling harder on your arms as the wind increases.

    At equal construction, fabric also matters. The FYNIX uses a light 30 g/m² canvas, naturally water-repellent. This lightness improves flight in light conditions: the wing stays dry and responsive, holds better in the air when wind drops, making takeoff easier. Conversely, canvas that absorbs water becomes heavier, increases drag and loses considerably from the low end of the range.

    Remember this for later: construction shifts the wind range. That's why the ranges announced below always apply to a specific construction, here single skin. Choosing your construction therefore already orients your size.

    What size based on wind and your body weight?

    The table below shows the wind ranges of the FYNIX in single skin. A critical point to note: these ranges are for the FYNIX, wider than the market average thanks to the PushBar System®. A standard wing without dynamic power management won't cover the same range.

    These ranges apply to a reference rider of about 80 kg and assume you adapt the foil and board size. Adjust based on your weight: lighter (60 to 70 kg), you can drop a size.     Why the FYNIX range eliminates the need for half-sizes

    By analyzing the market, you'll notice that most brands offer up to 6 or 8 different sizes (e.g. 2.2m, 3.5m, 4.7m, etc.). When the usage range of a fixed-profile wing is narrow, multiplying intermediate sizes is the only way to fill the gaps between two surfaces.

    To get started in Parawing, no need to complicate your equipment. A 4 m or 5 m covers the vast majority of needs. A slightly larger wing provides more support at takeoff, stabilizing the precarious balance of first flights.

    The ideal setup for beginners: a FYNIX single skin 5 m, a Downwind-oriented board (like the Sroka LW Mid around 7'2), and a high aspect ratio foil from the UHA range between 1,300 and 1,500 cm²: this aspect ratio maximizes both lift, to take off early, and glide once launched.     FAQ: What size Parawing to choose

    What size Parawing for beginners?

    A 4 m or a 5 m. They provide more support and stability than a smaller size. In light summer wind, choose the 5 m by default.

    What foil to choose for beginners in Parawing?
